The first Idaho Linux Users IRC Meetup was held on June 16th, 2010, at 7 PM in #idaho-linux-users on Freenode.net. With 8 attendees, we had a lively conversation about and we were in agreement of working towards having a statewide event promoting OSS/Linux on Saturday Nov, 20th, 2010. We would shoot for four physical locations to have this event simultaneously. Those locations would be North Idaho (Moscow), South East Idaho (IF), Twin Falls and in the Boise Area. This would be an educational event which could also include a install fest along with making available LiveCD/DVD's that attendees that could take with them. During the Meetup, one attendee jokinglee suggested that we do an airdrop of hundreds of Linux/Open Source CD's and another attendee offered to make the parachutes for them. It was a fun meeting. All the attendees were encouraged to think about what we can do at this event including presentations/presenting before our next Meetup on July.
Another result of the meeting was to start a group meeting area on Hub Folk, (http://www.hubfolk.com/) for Idaho Linux Users (http://www.hubfolk.com/pg/groups/328/idaho-linux-users/). All are encouraged to sign up on Hub Folk and connect by joining the Idaho Linux Users Group. This is a social website and as a group, we can have discussions, post pictures, create blogs, keep a live calendar and easily email other members of the group.
Our next Idaho Linux Users IRC Meetup will be on July 21st at 7 PM on Freenode.net in #idaho-linux-users.
