The long anticipated Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx was released today, April 29th. Excpect delays in downloading depending on your location and luck accessing the download sites. The final Release Candidate was released last Thursday, April 22nd, and seemed to work well plus there was no flurry of problems as were observed when the Beta 2 hit the streets. My DVD download is coming down at a little over 66Kbits and will finish sometime Friday morning before I can test drive it. I did install the 10.04 Release Candidate and found it very stable. Download is at http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download and release notes can be found at http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/releasenotes/1004. We will be discussing installing and configure 10.04 at our May meeting and member Gregg will be presenting on his work in configuring printers with Lucid Lynx.
It should be noted that the Ultimate 2.6 and UbuntuStudio 10.04 releases are available now and posted on Distrowatch along with the other main stream 10.4 versions such as Kubuntu and others.
One retrospective note: I have a server that runs 6.0.6.1 LTS (server) which has not been powered on for sometime as it fell into disuse. When I powered it on today, I found that it is still supported with updates as several updates were applied and actually, the server is still useful without upgrading as it has version 5 of both PHP and MySQL installed. I did decide to upgrade it to 8.04 using the upgrade utiliity and it worked okay, the server is still totally functional and I did not have to reconfigure anything but still there were errors and I had to make some significant judgement calls as to when or replace config files. Since it is now on 8.04 LTS, I will probably upgrade to 10.04 LTS is in final release, but providing some time for 10.04 to become fully baked.
