January 7th Meeting Report
We had a special guest at our meeting last night in addition to the scheduled presenation on installing and configuring Linux. There were 10 in attendance. Our special guest was Scott Croft, Red Hat Professional Services, a Linux Consultant RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer). He spent about 30 minutes in updating us on the activities and programs at Red Hat as well as Fedora. Part of what was interesting is how fast they move the Fedora code in to thier Enterprise product as Red Hat releases both Fedora 13 and Enterprise 6 which may have some Fedora 13 code in it when released. Scott also handed out some real nice Red Hat momentos to thos present, some based on Red Hat trivia. We hope to have another Red Hat representative in the near future as well as focusing on installing, configuring Fedora 12 at one of meetings in the next couple of months.
We then moved into the scheduled presentation of the evening with Jeremy Light demonstrating how to install and configure Slackware 13. Jeremy had provided two handouts and brought several copies of the installation DVD's for those interested installing either the 32bit or 64bit version of Slackware 13. Jeremy did an excellent job of presenting the information and in preparing the handouts so those present could follow along. He concluded with some comments on package management as well as installing and configuring packages from different source. The two handouts (PDFs) can be found as attachments to this report but you must be logged in to see or download them.
Both Scott and Jeremy merited the round of applause from those present for their presentations.
Next meeting will be February 4th. Exploring the Nano editor will be one of the topics for presentation.
